Cars from 1878 to 1920 - The forerunners

Peugeot Type 146

1913
Code 1416
Body style: torpedo

Although its BBs were remarkably successful, Peugeot’s reputation was built on larger cars that were produced at around the same time. All in all, only 428 examples of the Type 146 were produced, including the one exhibited, but they served to enhance the brand image.
The production of the earliest Peugeot plants in Eastern France (Audincourt, Valentigney, Beaulieu) was the key to the manufacturing quality and reputation of the firm, but they were no longer capable of keeping up with demand. Additional sites had to be opened in Lille and Issy-les-Moulineaux, and the Lille plant started to build the large pre-war Peugeots, including this model.

During the war, many of these cars, which could hit speeds of nearly 80 kph (50 mph) at full load, were used for officer or health vehicles. They were subsequently used as fire-fighting vans, because the size of the chassis enabled the necessary equipment to be carried.
